- Science Fiction, Baby

I just sold my first honest-to-god SF story, with aliens and explosions and everything. I am deeply pleased. Can't say where yet, but I'll announce that soon.
(Write On My Skin)
The final frontier for Valente!
I kind of love the story, though it was brutal to write. I felt like all my normal tools were gone.
The most important tools are the ones you don't consciously think about - and you use THOSE really well.
BTW - you ought to look at my last two posts: one on writing, one on art.

Hm. I seem to have more trouble selling series, but that goes back to my problem with accessibility. Most publishers, I think, might take a risk on one unorthodox book, but a series? They didn't even want to split the Orphan's Tales into four, as it was originally planned. I certainly understand your point if a series catches on but if it doesn't, it can be an anchor around one's neck.
Accessibility IS a key component, true. I have a couple of less-accessible books I want to do - but they'll be much easier to sell to the larger fanbase I'm getting with the series.
ORPHAN'S TALES in four books would be brill.

That was the original plan. Maybe someday a specialty press will want to do a four book slipcovery thing.
Poo accessibility. It is becoming one of my least favorite words. Not that I don't understand the need, but that I'm tired of being lectured by editors on the topic, and I clearly have no way of telling when I'm being accessible and when I'm not. Grumble.

LOL... you should see my graphic novels. I used to get reviews that said it was "...the best comic being published in which nothing ever happens and you have no idea what's going on."
You be sure to tell me what show you're coming to, so I can be certain to bring my books to get signed. I find myself thinking tonight that it's ridiculous that we've never met.
This year, we shall - one way or another. And I'll sign your books if you'll sign mine. ;)
Congrats! It's fun to branch out--even more so when you succeed at something new. Is this thanks to the influence of all that Doctor Who? :P (Though I'm sure your story is loads better than the majority of Who!)
I've read quite a bit of SF actually. I love DW, but he's hardly my first. ;)
Awesome :) I can't wait to read it.
Also, I am finding myself in lust with many of your icons. Do you have any policies on icon sharing? I'm happy if you don't want to share :)

I *had* to borrow your House of Leaves and Zero Punctuations ones :) Thank you!
